The Last Airbender

The Last Airbender is an upcoming Action-adventure fantasy film scheduled to be released on July 2, 2010. It is a live-action film adaptation based on the first season of the highly successful, Emmy-winning animated television series, Avatar: The Last Airbender. The first of a planned trilogy, it will be produced by Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies. The series, influenced by Asian art, mythology and various martial arts fighting styles, was created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, and was adapted by M. Night Shyamalan, who will also direct and produce the film along with Frank Marshall, Kathleen Kennedy, Sam Mercer and Scott Aversano. Filming began in mid-March 2009; the movie is scheduled to be released on July 2, 2010.

The film stars Noah Ringer as Aang, a reluctant hero who prefers adventure over his job as the Avatar. Aang and his friends, Katara and Sokka, journey to the North Pole to find a Waterbending master to teach Aang and Katara the secrets of the craft. At the same time, Fire Lord Ozai, the current Fire Lord of the Fire Nation, is waging a seemingly endless war against the Earth Kingdom, the Water Tribes, and the already vanquished Air Nomads. The film also stars Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone, and Dev Patel.

Premise

In a world where the elements, Water, Earth, Fire, and Air can be controlled by people known as "benders", the Fire Nation is waging a ruthless war to control the other great nations. The only hope for stopping the war rests on the shoulders of a young boy named Aang (Noah Ringer). The last known Airbender and survivor of the peaceful Air Nomads, Aang is the Avatar. The Avatar is the physical embodiment of the world, with the ability to control all four elements and draw upon the combined power, knowledge, and experience of the Avatar's previous incarnations. The Avatar's duty is to maintain peace between the four nations and the spirit realm, ensuring that the world remains in balance, despite the Fire Nation's war. Aided by a protective teenage Waterbender named Katara (Nicola Peltz) and her warrior brother Sokka (Jackson Rathbone), and his forever loyal Sky Bison Appa, Aang begins a perilous journey to restore balance to their war-torn world. Standing in their way is the ambitious Fire Nation Admiral, Zhao (Aasif Mandvi) and Prince Zuko (Dev Patel), the banished prince of the Fire Nation who seeks to capture Aang to regain his honor.

Cast

  • Noah Ringer as Aang, who disappeared from public sight a hundred years ago. While he appears to be a 12-year-old boy, he is technically 112, and furthermore is the latest reincarnation of the Avatar. Though he is capable of bending all four elements, at the beginning of the film he has only learned to airbend. It is also his duty to maintain balance in the world, which conflicts with his easy-going, fun-loving personality.
  • Nicola Peltz as Katara, a 14-year-old girl of the Southern Water Tribe and its last remaining waterbender. Since the death of her mother, Kya, she has served as the maternal figure in her family, and is no stranger to responsibility despite her young age. She is Aang's good friend and love interest.
  • Jackson Rathbone as Sokka a 15-year-old warrior from the Southern Water Tribe and Katara's older brother. He can be condescending, and has no bending powers, but is extremely intelligent and often takes up leadership roles by virtue of coming up with most of the workable plans and tactics. In the animated series, he was also a primary source of comic relief, though this may not be retained in the movie.
  • Dev Patel as Prince Zuko, a 16-year-old Fire Nation prince who travels with his uncle. The former heir to the throne, he was exiled by his father, Fire Lord Ozai, and ordered to capture the Avatar (who had not been seen in almost a century, making the assignment a wild goose chase) in order to regain his lost honor. He is the primary antagonist of the film.
  • Shaun Toub as Uncle Iroh, Zuko's uncle. He is extremely easy-going and friendly, and often acts as a surrogate father to Zuko. Formerly a great general of the Fire Nation, personal tragedies led to his retirement, and the role of heir-presumptive passed to his younger brother Ozai.
  • Aasif Mandvi as Admiral Zhao, a hot-tempered Fire Nation Commander in pursuit of the Avatar. He is Zuko's principal rival.
  • Seychelle Gabriel as Princess Yue, a princess and the daughter of the Chief of the Northern Water Tribe. She acts as Sokka's love interest.
  • Jessica Andres as Suki, a leader of the young female warriors of Kyoshi Island, the Kyoshi Warriors.
  • Cliff Curtis as Fire Lord Ozai, the leader of the Fire Nation. He is the secondary antagonist of the film, and the main antagonist of the series.
  • Katherine Houghton as Kanna, the grandmother of Katara and Sokka.

Inkheart

Inkheart is a 2008 fantasy film, directed by Iain Softley. It is based on the 2003 German novel of the same name by Cornelia Funke. The film was first slated for release on March 19, 2008, but has been pushed back to December 12, 2008 in the UK and January 23, 2009 in the US, partially because of New Line's marketing worries in connection with now-concluded 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike.

Inkheart

Plot
When Mo (Brendan Fraser) reads aloud from books, he has the ability to make the characters come out of the book, into real life. Mo discovered his power when his daughter Meggie (Eliza Bennett), was just a baby. Mo read aloud from the book Inkheart, which caused several of the book's wicked characters, including Capricorn (Andy Serkis), to literally come to life. But while he read them out of the book, he accidentally read Meggie’s mother, Teresa (Sienna Guillory) into the story.

Meggie is 12 years old, but knows nothing of her father's bizarre and powerful talent. But Meggie is annoyed that Mo still refuses to read to her. Capricorn, a man who burns for pleasure and being so evil that he would "feed a bird to a cat on purpose, just to watch it being torn apart", has searched for Meggie's father for years, seeking to twist Mo's powerful talent to his own dark means. Finally, Capricorn realizes that the best way to lure Mo to his remote mountain hideaway is to use his beloved daughter Meggie as bait. While Meggie discovers Capricorn's ruthless plan, she too, can pluck people from pages and bring them to life, but it takes a while for her to realize her power.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army

Hellboy II: The Golden ArmyHellboy II: The Golden Army is a 2008 film directed by Guillermo del Toro. The film is a sequel to 2004's Hellboy, also directed by Del Toro. Hellboy II: The Golden Army is written by Guillermo del Toro and Mike Mignola. Universal Pictures finances and distributes the film, which has a target release date for July 11, 2008.

Premise :

In February 2007, Mignola described the story he had developed with del Toro as one that focused on folklore and fairy tales, rather than the more pulp elements of the first film. It's not Nazis, machines and mad scientists but the old gods and characters who have been kind of shoved out of our world. I kind of equate it to the whole American Indian situation. The Indians were shoved onto reservations. You had your old, wise Indians who said, "You know, this is the way it is. We can't fight anymore. We just have to accept our fate." You then have your Geronimo character saying, "Or we could just kill the White Man." That's kind of the situation we have in the film. We have our elf characters resigning to the way things are and then there's one saying, "Or we could take the world back." The main difference is - what if the Indians had a nuclear warhead? The elves have their equivalent of the weapon that is too terrible to use. What if this guy decided to use it?

The film will transpose the novel into the present day and will be mostly live action, with only the landscape and creatures supplied by computer-generated graphics.[1] The film will be projected using Real D Cinema technology, a format that made its debut with the release of Chicken Little. As such, it will be the first wide-release film to be released exclusively in the Real D Cinema format, as approximately 1500 theatres will have Digital 3-D compatibility by the time of its release.

Story
The story begins on Sunday 24 May 1863, in the Lidenbrock house in Hamburg, with

Professor Lidenbrock rushing home to peruse his latest purchase, an original runic manuscript of an Icelandic saga (which is strange, considering that all of the Icelandic sagas were written using the latin alphabet) written by Snorri Sturluson . While looking through the book, Lidenbrock and his nephew Axel find a coded note written in runic script. (A first indication of Verne's love for cryptology. Coded, cryptic or incomplete messages as a plot device will continue to appear in many of his works and in each case Verne goes a long way to explain not only the code used but also the mechanisms used to retrieve the original text) Lidenbrock and Axel translate the runic characters into Latin letters, revealing a message written in a seemingly bizarre code.

Professor Lidenbrock decides to lock everyone in the house and force himself and the others (Axel, and the maid, Martha) to go without food until he cracks the code. Axel accidentally discovers the code when fanning himself with the parchment, realizing that the letters simply have to be read backwards to reveal sentences written in rough Latin. Axel decides to keep the secret hidden from Professor Lidenbrock, but after two days without food, he cannot stand the hunger and reveals the secret to his uncle. Lidenbrock translates the note, which is revealed to be a medieval note written by the (fictional) Icelandic alchemist Arne Saknussemm, who claims to have discovered a passage to the centre of the Earth via Snæfellsjökull in Iceland. The message reads (when reflected in a mirror):...................................
